‍GovCamp Scotland Code of Conduct‍

At GovCamp Scotland, we take your safety and comfort very seriously. We aim to make our events welcoming, friendly and inclusive.

‍We will do everything in our power to ensure that those involved in delivering or attending our events are treated with respect and consideration regardless of:‍ ‍

  • Physical appearance

  • Physical/mental ability or neurotype‍ ‍

  • Age‍ ‍

  • Race, ethnicity, language or nationality‍ ‍

  • Socio-economic status‍ ‍

  • Professional experience, background, level or ‘rank’‍ ‍

  • Religion, belief or non-belief‍ ‍

  • Gender or gender identity/expression‍ ‍

  • Sex or sexual orientation‍ ‍

  • Or any other characteristic

‍We are determined to ensure that GovCamp Scotland is a physically and psychologically safe space for everyone and we hold a zero-tolerance position to all forms of bullying, harassment, or discrimination.

Your responsibility

‍All involved in GovCamp Scotland – from the delivery team, volunteers, delegates and sponsors - have a responsibility to create and support the safe space described above and must agree to our code of conduct.‍ ‍

Unacceptable behaviour includes (but is not limited to):

  • direct or indirect intimidation, bullying, and harassment ‍ ‍

  • offensive, discriminatory, or derogatory comments whether verbal or written‍ ‍

  • unsolicited and persistent attention whether in-person or online (for example stalking and/or harassment)‍ ‍

  • any type of violence and/or threats of violence ‍ ‍

  • unwelcome sexual attention (for example, verbal comments) or physical contact ‍ ‍

  • sharing content/links to illegal, pornographic or other inappropriate and offensive material ‍ ‍

  • sustained disruption of sessions throughout the event

  • instigating or encouraging any of the behaviours set out above is also unacceptable 

  • other behaviour deemed inappropriate, offensive, threatening or harmful

‍If any event delegate engages in behaviour that violates the above code of conduct, the GovCamp Scotland Delivery team will take action they deem appropriate, including (but not limited to) removing the participant from the event, banning them from future events or reporting the individual to the police.‍

The Delivery team will either attend or drop into sessions to sense check that safe and comfortable spaces have been created, and we have asked our volunteers facilitating the sessions to report any concerning behaviour.‍

Photography and recording

‍Delegates or volunteers wearing orange lanyards have asked not to be photographed. We ask that you respect this request.

‍Reporting an incident

If you witness any unacceptable behaviour, something that concerns you, someone in distress or violations of this code of conduct, please immediately speak to the logistics delivery team lead who will identify themselves at the start of the event. Please report your concerns even if the situation is not happening to you.‍

This code of conduct was informed by the UK GovCamp Camp code of conduct.
